Year 2 and Year 3 - Little Pines
Welcome to Little Pines!
We are delighted to begin this exciting new chapter as our Year 2 and Year 3 children come together to form a new class. This year will be full of curiosity, creativity, discovery and opportunities to learn together, make new friends and grow in confidence. Above all, we want every child to develop high aspirations and believe in what they can achieve. We have high expectations for each child’s presentation and handwriting of their learning; they will be writing neatly and with joined up handwriting across all subjects.
There is so much to fascinate us this year! We’ll travel Around the World, discover the stories of Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II, journey back to the Stone Age, and learn about significant space explorers including Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake. In Science, we’ll investigate animals, habitats, rocks and soils, forces, materials, plants, light and shadows. Through these experiences, we hope to nurture fascinated, rounded learners who are curious about the world around them and eager to ask questions. We will develop our enquiry skills by asking questions, making predictions, setting up investigations, observing and measuring, recording data and interpreting our results.
In English we will take us on adventures through wonderful stories, poems and non-fiction, including The Hodgeheg, The Magic Faraway Tree, Stuart Little, The Day the Crayons Quit and other stories inspired by Mary Anning and Jane Goodall. We will also get creative through Art, Music and Design Technology, developing our skills while discovering different ways to express ourselves.
We will make the most of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom too. Outdoor Learning will give us opportunities to explore our local environment, observe nature and habitats, develop our map and fieldwork skills and learn through practical, hands-on experiences. We will also think about how we can be eager to make a difference, in our school, our local community and the wider world – while developing a sense of wonder, reflection and spiritual curiosity about ourselves, others and the world around us.
I am looking forward to seeing Little Pines grow into a happy, confident and curious learning community where children flourish. There is so much to discover this year, and I can’t wait to share the journey with you all!
