The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics. At Hawridge & Cholesbury C of E School, we aim to provide practical opportunities for the children to learn, explore and apply new concepts. Pupils have access to a range of resources and are encouraged to take their maths learning outdoors wherever possible. We aim to teach the skills children need to solve real life mathematical problems and provide opportunities for them to work both independently and as part of a team to collaboratively find solutions.

‘Teaching for mastery’ enables pupils to acquire a deep and secure understanding of the subject. We ensure they are secure with a concept before moving on to more advanced material, developing, building and refining their learning along the way. Wherever they are in their maths learning journey, every child can succeed.
