Year 5 - Cherry Platts
Welcome to Cherry Platts, our class teacher is Mrs Blackburn who will be working with Mrs Hance, our LSA.
Our learning this year will be based on the following topics; Anglo-Saxons and Viking (autumn), Crime and Punishment (spring) and Africa (summer). Most of our learning will draw upon these topics especially English, art, DT, music and dance. We will continue to explore Christianity through our RE lessons with our second religion being Islam. The children will continue to receive PE from a specialist once a week.
Throughout the autumn term, our English focus will be on older literature starting with Treasure Island, we will then focus on information texts and recounts finishing with poetry. Maths will be largely based on number and the four operations as well as statistics and area and perimeter. Our science learning will be based on Earth and space followed by forces in the second half of term.
During spring term, our English will begin with the study of Macbeth, linking to our Crime and Punishment topic. In art, we will be exploring the concept of street art and discussing whether it is a crime. We will be progressing our fraction and decimal knowledge and introducing percentages. We will be investigating various materials in science particularly focusing on their properties.
Our summer topic of Africa will be dominant across all subjects. We will be using the novel ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ as a main focus for English. The children will be exploring a range of African art and dance as well as learning about Africa music. In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats during the first half of and animals and humans in the second half of term.
