Year 5 - Cherry Platts

Welcome to Cherry Platts!

We are Year 5 and we have a busy and exciting year. Our teachers are Mrs Kretschmer and Mrs Morris.

Our classroom looks out onto the beautiful views across the fields behind the school and we regularly have opportunities in our learning to take advantage of the wonderful nature that surrounds us.

In the Autumn term, we love learning about the Anglo Saxons and Vikings which is linked in with our Art and English: we read the Anglo-Saxon legend of Beowulf with its terrifying monsters and sea-dragons and then Viking Boy. The Science topics are Earth and the Solar System and then Forces.

The Spring Term is when our topic is all about North America: its natural and physical geography. English, Art and Design are focused around another continent, Africa.

In the Summer Term, we look at Crime and Punishment across the centuries, linking it with Macbeth and having fun with Graffiti Art.

Throughout the year we, of course, have daily Maths lessons, which are based on the Maths Mastery approach to the curriculum, full of challenges and varied approaches to learning about number, shape, measure and statistics.

In amongst all this curriculum work, we also have time to play our important role in the school, being one of the older year groups. We take part in the Harvest Festival; show visitors around on Open Days and in the Summer we provide performers and choir for the Year 6 production. Another highlight of the Summer is our Year 5/6 activity week – an action-packed time, including a night under canvas.

What an action-packed year we have ahead!
