Year 5 - Cherry Platts

Welcome to Cherry Platts!

We are Year 5s and we are looking forward to a busy and exciting year. Our teachers are Mrs Kretschmer and Mrs Reid and we also have three LSAs called Mrs Hattam, Ms Ottaway and Miss Smith.

Our classroom looks out onto the beautiful views across the fields behind the school and we regularly have opportunities in our learning to take advantage of the wonderful nature that surrounds us.

This term we are learning about the Anglo Saxons and Vikings which is linked in with our Art and Design. Soon we shall also be exploring the Anglo-Saxon legend of Beowulf with its terrifying monsters and sea-dragons. The Science topics are Earth and the Solar System and then Forces

In the Spring Term, we will be looking at Crime and Punishment, linking it with Macbeth and having fun with Graffiti Art.

The Summer Term is when our topic is all about Africa: its rainforests and Deserts; its towns and people. English will be focused around the great story of ‘Journey to Jo’Burg: A south African Story’ by Beverley Naiboo.

Throughout the year, we of course have daily Maths lessons, which are based on the Maths Mastery approach to the curriculum, full of challenges and varied approaches to learning about number, shape, measure and statistics.

In amongst all this curriculum work, we also have time to play our important role in the school, being one of the older year groups. We take part in the Harvest Festival and the carol service, show visitors around on Open Days and we take key roles in the KS2 summer production.

What an action-packed year we have ahead!
